Today I went shopping… in my closet! Several factors led me on this home shopping excursion:
Does your closet look like mine? My walk-in includes similar wardrobes in different sizes. For example, black pants. Some might say I own far too many. But any woman will tell you that we need each and every pair for our “days”... fat days, thin days, work days, bloated days. Fortunately, I was prepared for all my “days,” owning several pair of black pants in a size one above my pre-pandemic body. As I tried them on, it was like saying hello to an old, dear friend. “Welcome back, larger black pants. I knew we’d meet again.” Some of the black pants in my “up size” selection still had tags on them, even though I purchased them 3-4 years ago. Bonus points for finding that closet treasure!
The same is true for jeans. I tried on every pair and made 3 piles. Pile one, zippers can’t close without pliers and a novena. Pile two, zippers close but I can’t breathe or sit down. And just like Goldilocks, pile three fits exactly right. The first two piles are now buried in the recesses of my closet, perhaps to see the light of day if summer motivates me to shed my pandemic pounds. My Goldilocks pile now occupies its place of honor on the “Fits Right Now” rack.
Women will understand when I say I was overjoyed to still have wearable clothes in my closet! I allowed myself to daydream about going out to lunch, wearing smart black pants, cute summer shoes, flowing summery tops. I’m dusting off the lethargy of lockdown and stepping back out into the world!
What is your closet like? Do you keep items in multiple sizes? How many pair of black pants do you own?
